Job Overview
Our Client is seeking a motivated High Voltage Electrician Graduate with experience in a mining environment to join their team. This role focuses on the electrical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of high voltage systems on heavy-duty machinery and earth-moving equipment. The ideal candidate will work alongside experienced electricians to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical systems used in mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repairs on Heavy Machinery:
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of high voltage electrical systems on heavy-duty mining equipment, such as electric dump trucks, excavators, and loaders.
- Support the inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical components, including motors, alternators, and control panels.
- Perform preventive maintenance on high voltage systems to minimize equipment downtime.
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose electrical faults in heavy machinery using specialized diagnostic tools (e.g., megohmmeters, oscilloscopes, and thermal cameras).
- Support in troubleshooting issues with electric drive systems, motor control circuits, and power distribution on mining equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals for problem-solving.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow strict safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular safety checks on high voltage systems to comply with mine safety regulations and standards.
- Participate in safety training sessions and report any safety hazards or incidents promptly.
- Support & Collaboration:
- Assist senior electricians in carrying out electrical installations and upgrades on earth-moving equipment.
- Work closely with mechanical and hydraulic teams to ensure integrated maintenance of heavy-duty machinery.
- Support the documentation of maintenance activities, including electrical inspections and repairs.
- Learning & Development:
- Participate in on-the-job training focused on high voltage systems used in mining heavy equipment.
- Gain hands-on experience with electrical systems from leading brands like Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, and Liebherr.
- Stay updated on the latest industry standards and advancements in high voltage systems for heavy machinery.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education:
- Craft Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
- Experience:
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in electrical maintenance, preferably in a mining or industrial setting, focusing on heavy-duty equipment.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of high voltage electrical systems (up to 33kV) on heavy machinery.
- Proficiency in using electrical testing tools like multimeters, clamp meters, and insulation testers.
